This illustration was a long time in the making! I had the vision for it after a whale watch that my family and I went on in Maui back in 2012. It was INCREDIBLE. The ocean was just bursting. Spinner dolphins and pelicans and humpbacks breaching left and right. Our boat guide even remarked, “this is like something out of a National Geographic show!” And most memorable for me were the baby whales, breaching along with the adults. Is there anything cuter than a baby humpback breaching for the first time?? They seemed so proud and so excited. It was truly a magical day.
