Bring in the new year with this eco-friendly calendar. After each month, tear off the page and plant it.As is all paper from Rockywoods Studio, it is handmade from 100% post consumer/ recycled paper. During the papermaking process flower seeds are sprinkled in. Expect variations in color from recycled material and texture from seeds. Due to the handmade nature, please allow for variation in size and color.
Planting instructions:
1. Tear into pieces to allow the paper to naturally biodegrade in the soil
2. Plant under about a pinky nail's worth of soil
3. Water and give plenty of sun
Things to note-
* 100% post-consumer/recycled paper and therefore color varies.
*Some seeds leave a stain/mark, this is normal and contributes to each month being unique.
Get to Know the Austin Artist:
As an artist and art teacher, I was surrounded by more than my fair share of paper waste. I quickly lost count of the number of times I had students, one line into a drawing, declare that they hate it and need a new paper. The struggle and tears were real, as I stayed strong with my rule of only one sheet of paper today. I was certainly more mindful in my own art practice but still created paper waste.
I began making paper as a way to have a more eco-friendly art studio. A mindset that I carry with me now, as a small business. I took the paper scraps, having ample resources to collect from the classroom, to turn the old into new. My favorite part of paper making is that it allows me to play. I get to experiment with adding seeds, coffee grounds, or anything that I think, maybe I can get one more use out of it.
It never gets old to see the custom colored papers come together, knowing that they help mark important dates like weddings and anniversaries. I love seeing the personal touch it brings by adding the wedding colors into the paper itself!
