On a warm and balmy day in Venice, I explored the city by boat along the waterways. There was a distinct feeling of wonder at seeing buildings lining the canals, appearing to float magically above the water. I continued to absorb the new sights around me but caught my breath as I first glimpsed the sweeping domes of Santa Maria della Salute. As I approached this striking landmark of Venice from the canal, the images were seared into my memories. Today, when I think of the floating city that is Venice, Santa Maria della Salute’s imposing structure is the first that is conjured to my mind.
Get to Know the Austin Artist:
I use acrylic paint on canvas to create vibrant, ethereal compositions. Bold, abstract backgrounds lay the foundation, line-drawn architectural details come to life using acrylic ink markers, and oversized flowers are painted in. The interplay of contrasting technique, scale and colour employed in my work mirrors the contrasts found in urban landscapes.
The canvas becomes a vibrant playground, inviting viewers to explore the intersection of nature in urban spaces. Each painting acts as a portal, transporting viewers worldwide, encouraging them to embrace the unique beauty of cities. My art fosters exploration, urging individuals to uncover the stories beneath the surface, capturing moments and encouraging a broader understanding of our interconnected world.
