The cactus fruit or ‘tunas’ grow right on top of the pad’s edge of the Prickly Pear cactus. Cacti have no leaves but instead stems or pads. This fruit is the product of the plant’s growth cycle involving many biological and symbolic edges: An ending stage is the beginning of a new one, being the flowers that first appeared around the edges of the pad, the same spots from which the fruit emerges after pollination. Furthermore, these feed and make life sustainable to the many animal species thriving in the same habitat.

Cacti are resilient plants that adapted to survive extreme environments; hot, dry, and nutrient-poor conditions that would kill most plants.

They represent quiet strength, and the ability to thrive in harsh conditions while still blooming with color and beauty. Like many humans do.
