Get to Know the Austin Artist:
Erica Dawn Smith is an artist who paints softly detailed works in acrylic based on her observations of the beautiful Central Texas Hill Country. Erica grew up in a small town in southern Indiana with a goal of having a successful career in the creative arts. After earning a degree in set design from Indiana University and a scenic painting certificate from Yale School of Drama, she painted professionally in Massachusetts, California, and Nashville, before moving to Texas in 2013. Erica Dawn’s portfolio of scenic work includes several creative projects for professional theater, special events, live music and videos, feature films, and television series. She has painted dance floors, furniture, signs, sculptures, backdrops, and even live animals! The creative challenges and tight deadlines made this work exciting and gratifying, and her adventurous spirit and unwavering work ethic served her well in these environments.
After becoming a mother in 2017, Erica transitioned from full-time film and television work in Austin to the rural bliss of life in the hill country. In her garden studio, surrounded by native plants and animals, she paints endearing animal portraits and stunning landscapes that reflect her deep admiration for her surroundings. They serve as a playful ode to the rolling hills, crystal waters, and abundant flora and fauna that exemplify Central Texas.
