THE SPACE BETWEEN

This piece is about the bittersweetness of growth. It's about how when we're on a journey of self discovery and growth in life, the growing pains can be both bitter and sweet. There is this state of being that we experience, a blend of emotions that are sweet but also tinged with sadness. The flowers blossom, the vines reach out and intertwine, but the eyes in the heart of the flowers look elsewhere; all they can see is the growth of the other, for they cannot see their own beauty in the midst of change. They are in the space between where they are, and where they want to be; the space between the middle and the end.
Get to Know the Austin Artist:
In my artistic exploration, I delve into the depths of existence, exploring the strangeness and incongruity that permeates our lives. Subverting realism with abstraction as a way to take something from, the looked at, to the experienced. This combination of realism and abstraction allows me to make work that’s more about the material, about the surface and the texture, and more about the gestural mark making and brushstrokes. I make work through the flow state, using intuition and stream of consciousness to transform my thoughts and feelings into matter. The paintings rise from the brushstrokes, and the drawings rise from the mark making.
