Recycled paper waste becomes a textured treat!
Get to Know the Austin Artist:
As an artist and art teacher, I was surrounded by more than my fair share of paper waste. I quickly lost count of the number of times I had students, one line into a drawing, declare that they hate it and need a new paper. The struggle and tears were real, as I stayed strong with my rule of only one sheet of paper today. I was certainly more mindful in my own art practice but still created paper waste.
I began making paper as a way to have a more eco-friendly art studio. A mindset that I carry with me now, as a small business. I took the paper scraps, having ample resources to collect from the classroom, to turn the old into new. My favorite part of papermaking is that it allows me to play. I get to experiment with adding seeds, coffee grounds, or anything that I think, maybe I can get one more use out of it.
It never gets old to see the custom colored papers come together, knowing that they help mark important dates like weddings and anniversaries. I love seeing the personal touch it brings by adding the wedding colors into the paper itself!
