This piece captures a sweeping, stormy sky illuminated by the setting sun. I preserved a sense of spontaneity by painting most of the sky in one pass of the palette knife, with increasing detail as the eye approaches the bottom. While I wanted a sense of weight in the clouds, intense flashes of pink and gold add lightness and energy.
