This grackle glitter sticker is made with thick, durable vinyl that protects it from scratches, water and sunlight.
The grackle looks right back at you. He is decorated with bright fluorescent colors. They symbolize pride, marking the grackle as a courageous hero of Borderlandia. One eye is orange the other yellow. He looks at you with intensity. Borderlandia is a reimagined borderland full of life and movement that I render with repetitive mark-making.
Get to Know the Austin Artist:
Andrea Munoz Martinez is a Latina Artivist. Inspired by the theorist, Gloria Anzaldua, Martinez creates paintings, drawings, photographs and performance art of an imagined place she calls Borderlandia. She has an MFA in Studio Art from UCDavis and a BFA from The University of Texas at Austin. She teaches art at the Dougherty Arts Center is a gallery assistant at Art For The People Gallery. Her works include dogs, targets, roaches, chispas, wildflowers and self-portraits using subversive facial gestures. She is a border artist not only because she grew up in the borderlands of South Texas but also because her artivism takes the border an boundaries as their subject.
