Godfather Death
Leslie Deil
Water Colored Linocut Print, 1/10
43"h x 30"w - framed
2021
Based on a German Fairy Tale and one of many in my collection of German Fairy Tale pieces. A baby boy was born and only Death would stand up to be his godfather. He grew up to be a doctor and saved the life of a princess that Death was coming for. Death reminded his godson that he is a mere mortal and showed him the burning candle of his own life. I was inspired by the pandemic and my former career as a medical librarian. There are allusions to the medical profession around Death such as the plague mask, leeches, and fragrant herbs.
