Get to Know the Austin Artist:
I am an American-born, Austin-based, representational painter whose roots are in the visionary realism art movement. To create my work, I use the mischtechnik, an Old Master’s technique originally reinterpreted and taught by Austrian artist Ernst Fuchs. This method of building a painting uses a prescribed sequence of layers, alternating between oil glazes and white tempera. The process produces pearlescent optical grays and a vibrant luminosity.
My visual narratives reveal insights into continuously evolving introspective imaginings. These visual narratives capture moments of self-reflection, dreams, personal experiences, and contemporary events, that are woven together to tell a compelling story.
Fascinated by the scientific aspects of the mischtechnik and my spiritual experiences of painting, I seek to capture not only the physical appearance of my subject but also its emotive qualities. The magical interplay of light and color invites the viewer into the canvas, offering them a space to reflect upon and interpret my imaginative dreamscapes.
