Omen 2
Denver Gravitt
Oil on canvas
30"h x 24"w x 1.5"d - unframed
2025

This piece is born of and experience seeing the smoke of a Fredericksburg fire wash over Austin at sunset, with cool hues of smoke mingling with fiery sunset tones to give a sense of encroachment and fear. These colors are refracted through an inverted horseshoe, a "bad luck" symbol that reflects my experience in this moment of helplessness and inevitability in the face of circumstances outside my control.

Get to Know the Austin Artist:

Denver Gravitt is a Texas-based painter whose work weaves together memory, emotion, and surreal storytelling. Drawing inspiration from childhood road trips through the American Southwest, Gravitt creates atmospheric, figurative oil paintings that blur the line between dream and reality. Chrome objects, dramatic cloudscapes, and quiet symbols of hope and anxiety often float through his compositions, reflecting both the landscape and the psyche.

Gravitt earned a B.A. in Fine Art from Abilene Christian University and has worked professionally as a graphic designer for seven years. His return to painting marks a deeper exploration of narrative, nostalgia, and the shared emotional language found in objects and place.
