Six Swans
Leslie Deil
Water Colored Linocut Print, Artist Proof
43"h x 30"w - framed
2021
A princess's father married a witch and turned her six brothers into swans. In order to turn them back into humans, she had to knit them each a sweater made of asters within the next six years. She was not allowed to speak or laugh during that time. She completed the task, except for one sleeve, so one brother had to live with one swan wing. Things go sideways for women through no fault of their own, and then they are left with the burden of trying to fix it. The swans are in flight around a circle surrounded by the twisted asters.
