Long ago, in the in-between —
where wild things bloom and wither in the same breath —
the foxes came.
Not animals, not quite.
They moved like old spells, whispered too often to be forgotten.
One carried protection in its jaws, soft as moss,
the other, revelation, sharp as stars.
They returned when the garden pulsed out of time —
a sacred pause between one heartbeat and the next.
Where petals opened like eyes,
and the air shimmered with the weight of unspoken things.
Their clash was a dance,
ancient, necessary.
Not war, but remembering.
Snarls rang like chants.
The flowers listened.
With every bound,
every bite,
the garden grew wilder.
Truer.
And when dawn slipped in
on silent feet,
the foxes were gone —
but something lingered.
The hush.
The scent.
The knowing.
That beauty,
real beauty,
blooms where the wild things bite.

Get to Know The Austin Artist:
Phill’s enthusiasm as an artist is fueled by his love for the complex aspects of urban environments.
Placing the importance of expression at the forefront of each piece, he is guided by the desire to create authentic experiences of place. He challenges the connotations of place and argues that is more than a synonym for location, offering instead that it is a unique ensemble of nature and culture.
