Get to Know the Austin Artist:
Ben Stallman is an Austin-based wood burner who specializes in hyper-detailed wood burnings, all done completely free hand. After discovering he was colorblind at the age of 14, Ben pivoted to using a grayscale color palette for his sketching and paintings.
After being introduced to pyrography through a tattoo artist, Ben formed an instant connection. For the past ten years, he’s blended his passion for intricate line work with the art of woodworking to form a fully original pyrographic style.
Translated from Greek to writing with fire, pyrography is Ben’s way of paying homage to the landscapes that shaped him: the rocky Maine Coast, the mountains of New Hampshire, and the deserts of West Texas. His latest body of work aims to honor the iconic western oil paintings and photographs of the 1800s and early 1900s blended with modern elements, highly detailed line work, and careful application of color.
Ben has created custom guitars for Chris Stapleton, Morgan Wallen, and other musicians through the Moody Center, even burning on actual Longhorn skulls for artists such as Brooks & Dunn and Dierks Bentley.
